Which flower bulbs to choose?

How do you choose your flower bulbs?
Do you want flower bulbs for your lawn or border?
This is how you choose easily:
- Crocus, daffodil and possibly ornamental onion can be planted anywhere, including in the grass.
- It is better to plant all other species in your borders because they do not like competition from the grass.
Crocus and daffodil can also be grown in the grass
Some flower bulbs also feel at home in the grass or lawn. I am thinking, for example, of crocuses, daffodils and possibly also ornamental onions . This makes the lawn less boring and you create nice walking lines in your grass.
In the grass you can plant a wide strip of daffodils on a strip where you do not walk or where you walk along, and also in that spot you can also plant ornamental onions that bloom during the summer. What you need to know is that you have to wait a long enough time before mowing the grass in this spot so that the leaves of the bulbs have wilted and their juices (powers) have run back into the bulb for the next year.
For the types of daffodils for such a strip, I would suggest choosing either white or yellow/orange varieties, depending on your preference. You can also mix a few varieties (of similar color) to give you a longer flowering period. When one has finished blooming, the others will bloom. My own preference is for whiter varieties, but that is really personal. In the photo below you see a mixture of Narcissus Thalia (a real gem!) and Narcissus 'Papillon Blanc' and Narcissus 'Tresamble'. I would go for at least 20 pieces per m2. Then it really is a sea of flowers from the first year. And with a bit of luck they will multiply afterwards and it will become even more beautiful.
And what can also be done in the short(er) grass or lawn is this, my favorite: the crocus ! Even when the grass is covered with a layer of snow, they appear and I always feel the wonder of nature, so close to my home! Plant 50 crocuses of the species you prefer (or a mixture is also possible) per square meter and you will get a magically beautiful result!
Ornamental onions can also be planted in the grass, they bloom a little later than the crocuses and daffodils, so they can perfectly be placed in the same spot.
All other species that we offer are better planted in the border because they do not like to compete with grasses. They fit perfectly in a perennial border that starts to grow later. The flower bulbs are the first bloomers in the garden and immediately add color to the borders in your garden.
But daffodils, crocuses and certainly ornamental onions also fit perfectly in your perennial border!
Tip for planting
Do not plant your purchased flower bulbs in a row, but let the bulbs 'fall' randomly where you want to plant them. This way you get the best effect.
